The Contrived and Continuous
"Nopony could remember a time when it rained so hard," the brown stallion huffed, a garishly blue unicorn poking her head out of the colored trailer behind him.
"Don't complain; you wanted to join my tour to see the world for yourself and accrue writing material. Certainly better than sitting alone with your typewriter." Her horn glowed as she filed a hoof. "I could have picked a better male escort to the Grand Galloping Gala. Any colt would be immediately taken with the Great and Powerful Trixie!"
"Well, the Tired and Sweaty Plainmane can't say he wouldn't like to be grampa." He clenched his teeth as he tracked through the mud. "It'd sure
"Query: your reason for attempting premature process termination last night." Lisa always sat in car seats with her head held high and her back poised, unlike Godot who, even in the driver's seat, leaned back casually as though he hadn't left the couch.
"Just felt like I was overstaying my welcome." He kept his glass-like eyes focused on the road. Lisa always admired those strange eyes, ravaged by something unseen and only now showing an outer weariness. Manly eyes.
"Without a nursing unit installed, it's recommended"
"I said I can take care of myself." Godot snapped, and actually turned his head towards her. She looked away and rema
"Employee ID: Devorae, Lauren. Congratulations on your annual progression!" Lisa's signature grin almost drowned out the birthday cake's candles. The mousy employee seated in the cubicle nervously peeled her thick-framed glasses away from her face and turned to face Lisa and her coworkers, turning a bit red. "Normally, the birthday celebration function is run from within the lunchroom scope, but your absence presented an exception. I hope you don't mind my initiative in transferring the office party here to your workstation."
"I'm sorry..." Lauren instinctively reached for the shears on her desk, its blades as thin and wispy as her fingers.
"Happy birthday, Lisa!" The chocolate cake was simple in design, adorned with a single candle surrounded by cherries nested in dollops of whipped cream. There were a few whispers going around about the number 203 laced into the frosting. "203?"
"In base 4, I'm fine." Lisa chuckled at the familiar in-joke and readily blew out her candle. "In base 10, I'm 35."
"I remember when you were the baby of the gang. Now most of the gang's got babies."
"Lisa, where's that boyfriend of yours?"
"Boyfriend? I have no record of such a user." Lisa hurriedly sliced off a piece of cake for herself and marveled at the fish-shaped candies in the filling.
"Sh
"Miss von Karma, your pupil has arrived." The governess cleared her throat as she stepped into the darkened room. Cobweb-like curtains over the windows sucked out the warmth of the summer morning. On the far end of the room was a lone girl with pale, silver hair and white skin, standing amongst the tarped furniture like a ghost in a graveyard. Her icy blue eyes were cast upward at a portrait, the drape that had been covering it hanging from a gilded corner, clutched in her gloved fist.
"Let him in." Franziska made sure her voice carried through the darkened room. She listened carefully before slowly wheeling about to face the governess with
