The mousy employee seated in the cubicle nervously peeled her thick-framed glasses away from her face and turned to face Lisa and her coworkers, turning a bit red. "Normally, the birthday celebration function is run from within the lunchroom scope, but your absence presented an exception. I hope you don't mind my initiative in transferring the office party here to your workstation."
"I'm sorry..." Lauren instinctively reached for the shears on her desk, its blades as thin and wispy as her fingers. She clutched them tightly in her fingers as she listened to everyone sing that dreadful birthday song, her eyes nervously darting back and forth between the expectant and bored stares. She found some comfort in Lisa's gaze; it was always earnest, focused dead center on Lauren with a smile.
